Employment First: Vocational Training Program
This summer, we are opening Turtle Town Café, a community space and coffee shop that will be the site for vocational training for people with developmental disabilities.
Participants will receive:
- high quality one-on-one instruction in a real job setting
- an assessment of learning style, skills, and challenges
- behavioral supports around issues such as personal hygiene, timeliness, and appropriate social interactions
- certificates of completion
- an employment reference
- résumé building
- referrals to community hiring partners
- optional ongoing job supports
Trainings are time-based and involve mastering specific skill sets. Certificates of completion include:
- wait staff
- food handling/safety
- inventory
- barista
- cash handling/cash register
- janitorial/recycling
- event set up/marketing
